Glorifying the Daily Mail

There seems to be an uncanny unanimity that the Labour Party's motives in pushing for the 'glorification' is to do with appearing to the Daily Mail to be tough on terrorism. Nobody seems to imagine that the law will do anything to reduce terrorism. This was the opinion of the panel on Any Questions, which included Diane Abbott.

There seems to be a dramatic collapse in discipline in the Labour Party which surely must presage a collapse in the polls, unless the Conservatives manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by choosing to turn in on themselves in an argument about Europe or something similarly divisive.

(added Sunday) The Economist seems to think it is perfectly OK to enact an unenforcible law if it strengthens the hand of the Government to enact unpopular but beneficial economic legislation later. I am not convinced.
